The famous Greek tragedy where Orpheus loses his wife to Death, bargains for her life, but ends up looking back and losing her yet again. But what if he took a different deal? What if Eurydice reincarnated eternally, with Orpheus never being able to stay with her? Millenia of grief turn into submission to his cruel fate, until Orpheus meets Eri. He thinks this time it's the same old, same old.

But it's not.

20/20 takes the audience on a journey through time, grief, hope, and love. The choice that Orpheus made millennia ago cannot be revoked. 20/20 is a mysterious new play by writer-director Cassie Choi exploring co-dependency and attachment, and asks: what would you do to stay close to your loved ones? How far is too far? What happens when lovers are forced to be apart?

Inspired by – and rewriting – the pitiful myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, 20/20 is a tragedy for anyone who has yearned, loved or lost in their lives. Cassie is excited to share a twist on an ancient Greek myth, and further explorations of the themes of death and loss, in the same vein as a similar play, Happily Ever After, performed with QMTC in 2024. Queen Mary Theatre Company is a student-led organisation based in East London. Coming to the Fringe every year since 1996, QMTC has been producing 4 shows a year for the Fringe year upon year, building a reputation as a group dedicated to enabling budding writers, directors, and actors to put on the work they’d like to share. The company revels in the diverse array of theatre genres and styles they produce, and this year is no different. 20/20 is unmissable for those looking to support emerging talent from a quality company!
