Fragmented Affections explores attachment psychology through dance and physical theatre. Inspired by the adult attachment theory of Cindy Hazan and Phillip Shaver, it raises the question: Anxious, avoidant, secure - when different types of people enter intimate relationships, do they also step into the maze each has built for the other?
In just twenty minutes, Fragmented Affections captures an emotional intensity that lingers well beyond its running time. This short physical theatre/dance piece examines our emotional moments, taking the audience through a journey of desire, rejection, fear and longing.
The dancers’ control of their bodies is fluid and expressive. Directed by Yueting Liu, the choreography balances stillness with bursts of motion, and the music is finely attuned to their movements, building a rhythm that speaks to the resilience and fragility of human connection.
Even in its brevity, Fragmented Affections carves out a world of intensity and intimacy, where every collapse, lift, and gesture carries the weight of unspoken emotion. It is a reminder that sometimes the body, unburdened by words, can speak most truthfully of all.
