Tingying Dong – Freelance Sound Designer & Winner of The Stage Debut Award
Tingying Dong, a rising star in the field of sound design, shared her journey from graduating at LAMDA in 2019 to receiving the prestigious Stage Debut Award for her work on The Crucible at the National Theatre. Tingying’s insightful talk covered her experiences working with prominent venues such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Young Vic, and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Her session delved into the evolving role of sound design in theatre and how to create immersive soundscapes that elevate the storytelling experience.
Valerie Mo – Theatre Director & Dramaturg
Valerie Mo, a queer Chinese theatre director and dramaturg, brought a fresh perspective to the event with her dynamic approach to new writing and storytelling-driven theatre. Valerie’s talk, enriched by her experiences working at Soho Theatre, Seven Dials Playhouse, and other esteemed venues, explored the intricacies of cultural identity, the complexities of womanhood, and the challenges faced by emerging directors in the UK. Valerie’s passion for creating meaningful, narrative-driven theatre was evident as she discussed the importance of storytelling that reflects both personal and cultural experiences.
